Meet Marlo

Welcome to our final week in our 5-week series, where we have been uncovering the successful habits that our very own team of fitness professionals live by.

In the past four weeks, Sophie, JasonRichard and Garrett have each shared their own fitness, nutrition and lifestyle habits responsible for their personal success.

This week we have DTS fitness professional Marlo,  share his top 5 strategies and habits for success when it comes to health and fitness.

#1: Be Realistic
When thinking of goals, be realistic in what you can reach. If the plan is to lose 20lbs. in two weeks, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Goals should be challenging, but make it realistic. Be real with what you can accomplish. Goals aren’t just numbers on the scale either. Maybe it’s working out three times out of the week or making sure you stay consistent with you meal prep for the month.

#2: Write Goals Down
There’s power in writing things down.  I’ve done this countless of times not just in the fitness setting but in other parts of my life as well. Place your goal on the fridge or in the bathroom mirror make sure you can see it.  By doing so, you make goals tangible.  It’s there staring right back at you.

#3: Map it Out
With the theme of writing goals down comes mapping it out.  When mapping out a plan, make sure to have both short term and long term goals. I start out with the long term goal, so I can see the big picture.  From there, I create the short term goals on a weekly basis. This idea of mapping it out also helps out with scheduling. This way if a conflict comes up, you’ll be able to deal with it appropriately without it sabotaging you from reaching your goals.

#4: Support System
The road to your health and fitness goals is hard enough by yourself. That’s where the support your support system comes in. Your support system can be your family, friends or your personal trainers. Having a support system is crucial – they will pick you up when the going gets tough, they’re there to listen to you complain about how hard the workout was, and they can also lend a helping hand. The best part about having a support system, is that your actions are contagious and you may be the one person who gets your family member or friend to reach their fitness goals.

#5: Patience
Patience! Patience! Patience! I can’t stress this enough. It takes time to reach your goals. Remember that this is a process. This personal journey has much to do with your mental well-being as it does with your physical fitness. So enjoy the journey, embrace the grind, you’ll definitely be surprised at the outcome.
