5 Successful Habits of
Fitness Professionals: Nick Brown

Certified Personal Trainer Nick Brown
Meet Nick

Have you ever wondered what type of habits fitness professionals live by?  What do they eat?  What type workouts do they do?  Do they practice what they preach?

Believe or not, these are common questions we get asked all the time.  To shed some light on what habits we subscribe to for success in our lives, this week we are addressing some of those common questions.

Last week, we profiled Tayler, and this week we are continuing with our Successful Habits of Fitness Professionals series with Nick, who is a Certified Personal Trainer, and soon to be Nutrition Coach and Pre/Post Natal Trainer!  Follow along as Nick shares his top 5 strategies and habits for success when it comes to health and fitness!

#1: Think of Food as Fuel not Comfort
In both happy and trying times, it is easy to look at food as a comfort. When we think of food this way, we have a tendency to over indulge. It is always important, when looking at your plate, to evaluate what your body needs opposed to what it wants. This is especially important when it comes to sugar. I try to cook my own meals at home so that I can track how much sugar, healthy fat, protein, and other nutrients go into what I eat.

#2: Having a Glass of Water as Soon as You Wakeup
Before getting out of bed I drink 8-10 oz. of water. This routine keeps me hydrated and helps remind me to continue to drink water all day. It is also a great way to flush your system first thing in the morning.

#3: Fitness Doesn’t Require Four Walls
Fitness is so much more than weights and machines. Don’t think that you always have to go to the gym for hours and lift to get a solid workout. Venture outside and breathe some fresh air! Playing sports, walking, bike riding and hiking are all excellent ways to switch it up while still making progress towards your goals.

#4: Celebrate Milestones on the Path to Your Goals
Long term goals can sometimes seem daunting if you don’t allow yourself to celebrate milestones or little victories. Your goal may be to lose multiple inches or pounds, but along the way, keep yourself motivated by celebrating accomplishments like drinking more water or putting your fork down when full. I am always on the go, so making sure I don’t skip meals is a daily goal that I track as part of my broader goal of maintaining and increasing muscle mass.

We all have days when our motivation is lacking. Sometimes all it takes to get you going is having a friend or partner to join in the journey with you. For me, that person is my wife. We hold each other accountable and celebrate each other’s achievements. Think of it as a healthy way to build relationships while working towards a common goal.
