DEHENZEL TRAINING SYSTEMS was created by husband and wife team, Jason and Sophie DeHenzel.  After meeting in NYC while working for a high-end personal training company, they decided it was time to leave the city and opt for a “quieter” life.

Jason and Sophie relocated to Northern Virginia with the goal to couple their entrepreneurial skills with their passion for fitness and for helping people.  In 2012, DeHenzel Training Systems was born.

Over the years, our team has been fortunate enough to have helped (and continues to help) numerous clients reach their health and fitness goals.  We like to think that our personal training speaks for itself through our glowing client success stories.

Our mentoring program is taught by veteran trainers and owners, Jason and Sophie, who work with each trainer one-on-one to help them develop new skills and grow their professional abilities.  Trainers are taught a foundation of skills that covers everything from how to work with a client with a knee injury, to safe lower back exercises, to exercise selection, to how to appropriately pace a workout, and much more.

Not only is our mentoring program completely unique to our company, but it is above and beyond what our competitors are doing.  Our program ensures that each and every one of our personal trainers is 100% qualified to work with your specific needs and goals.  Additionally, all of our trainers pass a background check so you can assured you are in great hands.

    Jason DeHenzel

    Owner, Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

    Jason has trained some of New York’s most prestigious clients, including high-profile lawyers, advertising executives, movie producers, and musicians. He has also worked with a wide range of clientele, varying in age, training goals, physical ability, and limiting health conditions.

    Jason has great experience working with clients wanting to achieve weight loss, strength gain, and overall health and wellness. He specializes in the utilization of high intensity circuits, sport specific training, weight lifting, boxing, and assisted stretching to achieve desired results.

        Sophie DeHenzel

        Owner, Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

        At the age of four Sophie began downhill skiing and went on to become a downhill ski racer for the Green Mountain Valley School. Although Sophie no longer skis (she now prefers snowboarding), she loves to stay active through weightlifting, interval training, and hiking.

        Sophie has immense experience working with a wide clientele base, ranging in ages from 12 – 82 years old, and varying in physical limitations and health conditions. She enjoys working with clients who are committed to their health and fitness journey and truly delights in helping each individual client reach their goals.

            Haley Murphy

            Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

            Growing up in Virginia, Haley played team sports year round and trained like an athlete. He enjoys being outdoors; hiking, camping, and grilling as well as spending time with friends and family.

            Haley takes pride in setting personal fitness goals and trying his best to achieve successful results. Haley became a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) to supports his clients in accomplishing their goals as well as developing more desirable physical abilities and lifestyles.

                Hannah Harvey-Sampson

                Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist, Sports Conditioning Specialist

                Hannah grew up in Pennsylvania and studied at Ithaca College where she swam on the state championship winning team and ran track as well.  Hannah has always been athletic and most notably completed her very first 100 mile ultra-marathon in just 21 hours last winter.

                Hannah is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and an Annette Lang Pre/Post Natal Specialist. She enjoys running, weightlifting, CrossFit exercises, hiking, and core workouts. Hannah is beyond excited to begin helping clients meet their unique fitness goals.

                    Erika Stepter

                    Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

                    Erika is a graduate of Howard University, where she received her degree in Business Administration and Management. While Erika has extensive experience in management, her true passion lies within fitness, healthy living and helping others reach their prospective goals.

                    Erika is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Council for Certified Personal Trainer (NCCPT) and an Annette Lang Pre/Post Natal Specialist.  Erika is well-versed working with clients ranging in ages from 14 – 76 years old and enjoys incorporating circuit training, weight lifting and strength and conditioning into her client workouts.

                        Nick Brown

                        Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

                        Nick is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and a professionally trained Chef and graduate of the culinary arts program at Johnson & Wales University. In his previous role as the Junior Sous Chef for the Washington Redskins, he combines his passion for fitness with the opportunity to cook for elite athletes throughout the year.

                        Nick is a firm believer in connecting with clients to understand what motivates them, beyond pounds and inches. His goal is to help and inspire others to be the best versions of themselves. Nick has great experience working with a wide variety of clientele from all walks of life and looks forward to helping you reach your health and fitness goals!

                            Tayler Nick

                            Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Level 1 Crossfit Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

                            Tayler grew up in Illinois and went on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.  Tayler continued her education, receiving her Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology also from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.

                            Tayler’s passion for fitness and for helping her lead her to become a Certified Personal Trainer by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), a Certified Group Fitness Instructor from the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and an Annette Lang Pre/Post Natal Specialist.

                                Jodi Atkinson

                                Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

                                Jodi graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University.  She was raised in Northern Virginia and currently resides in Ashburn with her husband, four children and chocolate lab.

                                Jodi is a certified personal trainer through National Council for Certified Personal Trainers (NCCPT).  As a youth, Jodi played basketball and softball but more recently has completed a marathon, half marathon, duathlon, triathlon, Ragnar races and various mud runs.

                                    Michael Haslam

                                    Certified Personal Trainer

                                    Michael is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer with a strong background in baseball/softball and basketball. He loves to use a client’s personality and needs to reach their desired goals. Creating effective workout plans and ensuring proper technique are his two biggest priorities, but he likes to mix it up to keep workouts fun and challenging.

                                    In his free time, Michael betters himself through CrossFit, weightlifting, obstacle races, and clean cooking. These allow him to explore the outdoors via hiking, play a pick-up game with friends, or keep up with anything life throws at him. Michael hopes to inspire others to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle and give them the ability to reach their own goals.

                                        Tara Ison

                                        Personal Trainer

                                        Tara’s passion for fitness began with the study of dance through tap, jazz and ballet. She studied dance for over 10 years, however, her main passion has always been swimming. Tara started swimming competitively at the age of 8 and continued swimming at the collegiate level for the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays competing in Freestyle and Butterfly.

                                        As a Certified personal Trainer, She is excited to share her education and passion by working with others to help them achieve their personal health and fitness goals. She also aspires to continue her education to obtain a certificate in Nutrition. In her free time, Tara enjoys running, weight training, cooking and playing with her new chocolate lab puppy!

                                            Cortnee Blackie

                                            Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist, USA Weightlifting

                                            Cortnee was born and raised in Massachusetts where her love for fitness grew from 16 years of competitive dance at the New England Dance and Gymnastics Center, ranked one of the top 10 studios in the country.  Her enthusiasm and passion for dance and fitness lead her to Westfield State University where she received her B.S. in Movement Science and Sports Medicine.

                                            Cortnee wants to share her education and love of fitness with others who have the aspiration to look better, feel better and perform better.  She has experience working with a wide variety of populations through many different fitness domains including: functional fitness, strength and conditioning, bodybuilding, injury prevention, weight loss, stretching and mobility and gymnastics.

                                                Amanda Hilditch

                                                Personal Trainer, Crossfit Level 1

                                                Amanda was born and raised in Brighton, England and moved to Loudoun County with her family as a teen. She grew up playing soccer and that is where her love for fitness sprouted. She followed her passion for Football aka Soccer into college. Once her soccer career was complete, and after several years of a non-active, unhealthy lifestyle, she discovered Crossfit, which reignited her passion for health and fitness.

                                                Amanda is a Certified Personal Trainer, a Crossfit Level 1 Coach and is currently studying nutrition to receive her Level 1 certification through the prestigious organization, Precision Nutrition. Amanda loves to spend her free time cooking, hiking and training to maximize her potential in the gym.

                                                    Shayla Gerity

                                                    Personal Trainer, Pre/Post Natal Specialist

                                                    Shayla was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA and attended Penn State University where she earned her degree in Exercise Science. After graduation she got her Personal Training Certification through ACSM.

                                                    Shayla believes that every area and function of the body deserves a specific focus. She aims to provide a client experience that leaves you with a smile and a comfortable feeling. Lastly, she believes it’s never too late to start the journey to a better, healthier life.
