Fitness Myth #7
There’s a Quick Fix for Everything!

Welcome to Week 7 and our final week in “Debunking Fitness Myths.”  Last week we covered “No Pain, No Gain” where we debunked the idea that if you’re not maximally uncomfortable throughout your workout, you won’t experience any gains.  Continuing with fitness myths, this week we will debunk the common belief, “There’s a Quick Fix for Everything!

It seems that everywhere you turn these days, there’s a promise for a quick fix solution when it comes to weight loss.  Juice cleanses, raspberry keytones, fat burners, 4 minute workouts, and so on and so forth.  Most people know these gimmicks aren’t the answer, however that doesn’t seem to stop people from buying into the ideas with the hope that it will be the answer to all their fitness problems.  The reality is that no matter how good it sounds, it really is too good to be true.  No magic pill, shake, or secret workout will give you healthy, long-lasting results.

Hoping those “magic pills” will enhance your workout?!

Many quick fix solutions are filled with promises of rapid weight loss and toned, rock-hard bodies.  If these products delivered exactly what they promised, then we would all have the dream body that we desire and every gym would be out of business.  Sure cleanses may help you drop unwanted weight, but it’s mostly all water weight and the minute you incorporate solid foods again, that weight (plus some) is sure to come back.  Sure fat burners may suppress your appetite by raising your heart rate, but these types of supplements aren’t FDA approved nor are they proven to work or be safe.

Getting ready for a cleanse?

Like most things in life, there are no shortcuts to losing weight and getting in shape.  And if you do take a shortcut, most likely the results won’t last nor will you have a healthy, strong body.  The only way to reach your health and fitness goals is to work hard, eat well, and if you’re trying to lose weight, create a caloric deficit.

Even superheros don’t take shortcuts!

Contrary to what the media wants you to believe, there are no quick fixes when it comes to health and fitness.  Working hard on your health and fitness and taking a healthy approach to weight loss will take time.  Lifelong changes can’t be made within days or weeks.  Sometimes it can take months or even a few years, dependent on how much weight you want to lose, or strength you want to build, or muscle you want to gain.  It’s truly a lifestyle change that you are making and not a quick fix.  Simply put, if you want real results, you must put in real work for long term results.
